Instruction manual

From downloaded zip to verse on the page — about 5 minutes.

  1. 1. Download the plugin

Click the Download plugin (.zip) button above. You'll get daily-bread.zip — don't unzip it; WordPress wants it as-is.

  2. 2. Install it in WordPress

    In your WordPress admin dashboard:

    • Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin
    • Click Choose File, pick the daily-bread.zip you just downloaded
    • Click Install Now, then Activate Plugin

Don't have a WordPress site yet? Try WordPress Playground (browser-only, 30 sec setup) or LocalWP (free desktop app).

  3. 3. Configure your settings

Go to Settings → DailyBread in the WordPress sidebar. Your plan tier is baked into the plugin you downloaded — no license key to copy or paste. You'll see:

    • Colors, font size, alignment — match the look to your site's design.
    • Translation — KJV is always available. WEB unlocks at Pro. ESV & ASV unlock at Premium.
    • Box styling — padding, border, border radius.
    • Custom Schedule — pin specific verses, quotes, or words to specific dates.
    • Premium extras — background image, custom CSS, four display templates, share buttons, random mode.

Click Save Settings when you're done. The live preview on the right updates.

  4. 4. Put it on a page

You have three ways to display content on your site. Use whichever fits how your theme is built.

    Option A — Shortcodes

Edit any post or page and paste one of these into the content:

    [dailybread]Bible verse only
    [dailybread_quote]Pastor quote only
    [dailybread_word]Word of the day only
    [dailybread_devotional]All three stacked together

You can also override the look on a per-page basis:

    [dailybread template="card" translation="web" alignment="left"]

    Option B — Gutenberg Block

In the WordPress editor, click the + button to insert a block, search for "DailyBread", and pick DailyBread Verse. The block's sidebar lets you tweak template, translation, and alignment per-insertion.

    Option C — Widget

Go to Appearance → Widgets and drag the DailyBread widget into any sidebar or footer area. Pick a title and (optionally) a template override.

  5. 5. Check it on your site

Visit the page or sidebar where you placed the shortcode/block/widget. You should see today's verse (or this week's, or this month's, depending on your tier).

It looks plain? Go back to Settings → DailyBread and adjust colors, padding, or pick a different template under Premium.

Troubleshooting

I clicked "Premium" but nothing happens.
The radio just selects — you need to scroll down and click Save Settings. After save, the Premium sections turn from gray to active.
The shortcode shows up as text instead of a verse.
Make sure the plugin is activated (Plugins menu — should say "Active" under DailyBread).
ESV translation isn't working.
ESV requires a free API key from api.esv.org. Paste it into the Premium "ESV API key" field. KJV, WEB, and ASV work without any key.
My styling changes aren't showing up.
Some hosts cache aggressively. Clear your site cache (and your browser cache with Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R).
How do I get more verses?
The current build ships with ~50 curated verses. A future Premium update will expand to 366 daily verses plus your own custom list.
